Setting Up Jupyter Lab On Mac

Setting Up Jupyter Lab On Mac
Setting up Python on a Mac can by tricky. The number of options is big, and they might interact strangely. Also you have to remember which installation method you used once you want to change version or upgrade. This post should remind me how I did it 😉

Testing dried Mango

Testing dried Mango
Since our 4 years in Vietnam we love Mango! And here in Germany we mostly turned to dried Mango. So it felt appropriate to have a proper test...

My notes from RC3 2020

My notes from RC3 2020

This year (Dec 2020) I had a ticket for the RC3. They were freely distributed, but ran out quickly. So I felt proud, and spent quite some time wtaching the CCC sessions.

Setting up my terminal

Setting up my terminal

I know, there are lots of articles and explanations out there on how to configure and set up your terminal. Yet, it took me more than 2 hours to get things working the way I wanted. Reason was, lots of the articles and explanations provide step by step guide on installing things, but to little background information on how things relate and work together in the background. And that’s what was missing to me…

Tips for travelling Vietnam

Tips for travelling Vietnam

SVG programming

SVG programming
For a side project I would like to have a nice, moving SVG Logo. While searching for tutorials, I found a couple that might be helpful.

My static website

My static website
Static websites are getting the standard these days. So I also had a look at it and compared some website generators.

Ping Visualization and Analysis

Ping Visualization and Analysis

So this is the situation I am facing: I use an internet access that doesn’t feel reliable. Sometimes it’s really fast, sometimes it just feels being very unreliable. And I never know what part exactly is just failing: Is the the application that is slow, is it the WIFI, is it the Internet access.

Visited countries

A nice tool to play around - because it’s nice to see where you’ve been and because it’s a nice piece of JS:

Good software developers test their stuff. And the TDD (Test Driven Development) addicts are maniacs when it comes to testing. Those guys usually think in code, be it Java, Python, nodeJS, you name it. TDD means you write tests first, then you code just as much as it takes to let the tests become green. Then you rework your code and only then you start writing tests for new requirements.

Adding Search to a static site

Adding Search to a static site

So now I have a static site that is generated by jBake. So far so good. But what’s a site without a search? Search is a must. So how do we add search functionality to a static site? Easy: We use the search giants Custom Search functionality ;)

Playing with Highcharts

Today I discovered Highcharts: A tool to easily create charts online. It actually lets you create the chart on their website (you litteraly need less than 5 minutes!) and publish it from there.

Zipf Mystery

No real content from me, but a meme I discovered and I felt I need to remember:

Rex Hotel in Saigon

The first one to mention it to me was my father in law (Danke Henry!). He said: “When you go to HCMC, do you stay in the famous Hotel Rex?”. I had never heard about it, but he told me about the Americans staying there during the American War (that’s how they call this war here in Vietnam). When arranging meetings here in Saigon, another guy I was supposed to meet came up with a list of hotels where we could meet, and when I saw the Rex I immediatly picked this one. Additionally it was within our budget.

Vietnamese Fast Food

Tonight I learned a new thing: Vietnamese also have Fast Food. Like McDonaldViet. My showed me such a place tonight. It’s called Star Beef. Believe it or not, we had something like a “Hot Stone” menu. Except that the stone was metal.

Sugar cane drink

Just because it’s my last food shop in Da Nang (for this time), and because I never mentioned it.

Crowdsourcing! Zahle 100,- € für Wappen

Crowdsourcing!
